Castle Wood School

Transforming the lives of pupils through learning, innovation, inclusion and partnerships

50 Deedmore Road, West Midlands CV2 1FN

Castle Wood School Coventry, is an Outstanding Broad Spectrum Primary School offering 139 places to pupils aged 3-11 years. Our pupils have a range of diagnoses from Autism, Cerebral palsy, Epilepsy, Hearing impairment, Visual impairment, medical needs, Communication and language delays, social and emotional difficulties along with physical delays.

Castle Wood School ethos is pupil first; we achieve this through providing high quality challenging learning environments that is based upon pupil engagement and interest.

Over the last year we have had an increasing influx of pupils within our school that have Profound Autism along with additional sensory needs. Over the last year we have worked alongside an Occupational Therapist and Coventry University. We have trialled increasing the amount of sensory and physical input into a small group of pupil’s daily curriculum and have had many successes.

Our staff are very motivated and keen to expand upon the success stories of this year from a small group of pupils to the whole school. Unfortunately large physical equipment is very expensive and due to our budget cut, our school would need to save over a long period of time to afford substantial learning environments. This impacts our current pupils greatly, as they will not have access to high quality learning environments that support the development of their sensory needs to enable pupils to be ready to learn.

Our aspirations to improve our learning environments inside and outside our school are based upon multi disciplinary practice and research.

What we are fundraising for…

Soft gym

Our Soft play room is currently 8 years old and requires refurbishment due to constant use and wear and tear over time. Due to the changing needs of our pupils we would like to fundraise to replace this room with a soft gym. We believe this will enable pupils to develop their sensory needs in targeted areas.

Cost £20000 – we aim to complete fundraising by April 2019
