Castle Wood

Together, children first...

Attendance

At Castle Wood School we place a strong emphasis on good attendance and time keeping to enable pupils to achieve their full potential whilst at school.

School starts at 8.55am and finishes at 3pm. We encourage all pupils to be punctual. School transport is available to assist with getting children to school.

By law, all children of compulsory school age (5-16 years old) must receive a suitable full-time education.  Once your child is registered at school, you are legally responsible for making sure that they attend regularly. If your child fails to do so, you risk getting a penalty notice or being prosecuted.

School staff are available to support with individual issues that may be impacting upon attendance. Please speak to a member of the leadership team.

When your child is absent from school you must inform the school by 9.00am. This can be via ClassDojo, ringing the school office 024 76709060 or emailing the admin team admin@castlewood.coventry.sch.uk

If your child accesses transport, please inform transport they will not be attending on 024 76831614.

If you have not made contact with school by 9.30am, the school will make contact with you to find out why your child is not in school. If there is no response from parents by 10.00am regarding an absence, school will make a home visit to check on the wellbeing of the child and offer support.

If your child has an appointment during the school day we need to have evidence of the appointment. This can be shared with the school office or a picture sent on ClassDojo. Without evidence of an appointment, absence will be unauthorised.

If your child arrives after 9.15am. You will need to sign your child in as late with a reason.

Leave of absence in term time

Leave of absence request forms are available from the school office. This form must be filled in, otherwise your child's absence will be unauthorised. It is the Headteacher's discretion to authorise holidays. If the holiday request is declined and you still take the leave of absence in term time, you may be subject to a penalty fine.

Attendance fines

If your child is late for 10 sessions in 10 weeks or has 10 sessions (am or pm) of absence over a 5 day period, parents could be fined. From 19th August 2024 fines are increasing to £80, or £160 if not paid within 21 days. Second fines are automatically £160 and the third fines may result in prosecution.
